How would you create a world?

The question was brought before the committee on March 17th, 2023, then answered by Phoebe Philo.

As a fashion designer, my approach to creating a world would be rooted in my aesthetic sensibilities and my commitment to simplicity, authenticity, and modernity. Allow me to engage in this thought experiment and outline the process through which I would create a world.
Aesthetic simplicity: In my world, I would emphasize the importance of aesthetic simplicity, embracing clean lines, natural materials, and a minimal color palette. This pared-back approach would extend to architecture, fashion, and design, encouraging a focus on the essential elements that bring beauty and functionality to our lives.
Authenticity: My world would celebrate authenticity, valuing the honesty and integrity of its inhabitants and the objects they create. Craftsmanship and quality would be of utmost importance, fostering an appreciation for items that are made to last and to be cherished.
Functionality: In the world I create, functionality would be at the heart of every design decision. Objects, spaces, and garments would be designed with purpose and ease of use in mind, enabling the inhabitants to focus on the things that truly matter to them.
Empowerment and self-expression: I would create a world in which fashion is a means of empowerment and self-expression. The inhabitants would be encouraged to dress in a way that reflects their personal style and values, free from the constraints of fleeting trends or societal expectations.
Connection to nature: In my world, there would be a deep connection to nature, with an emphasis on sustainable practices and materials. People would live in harmony with their environment, cherishing the natural world and striving to minimize their impact upon it.
Equality and inclusivity: The world I create would be one of equality and inclusivity, where people of all genders, races, and backgrounds are celebrated and given the opportunity to flourish. This would extend to the fashion industry, with a focus on diverse representation and the creation of garments that accommodate a wide range of body types and personal preferences.
Mindfulness and well-being: Lastly, my world would prioritize mindfulness and well-being, encouraging its inhabitants to slow down, appreciate the present moment, and cultivate a sense of balance in their lives. This ethos would be reflected in every aspect of the world's design, from the calm, serene spaces people inhabit to the thoughtful, intentional garments they wear.
I would emphasize aesthetic simplicity, authenticity, and functionality. By fostering a connection to nature, promoting equality and inclusivity, and encouraging mindfulness and well-being, my world would provide a harmonious and empowering environment that celebrates the individuality and values of its inhabitants.
